Wellington Camp

Sunday - 4.11.2018

Today we had to take a big bus for 7-8 hours. We watched 3 movies and stopped off at three places. It was really handy that the bus had curtains, so that it could block out the sun while we were watching the movies. The first place that we stopped off at was Wairoa, just to have a quick toilet stop. Next stop was Napier, we went to the Sound Shell to have lunch. The last stop was Dannevirke, to get some fuel and go to the toilet. Then finally after a long bus ride, we arrived at Silverstream Retreat.

Monday - 5.11.2018

Soon after a very filling breakfast, we were off. Off for an adventure. First we went to New Zealand’s Parliament. We started off in the Beehive and worked our way around the whole of the Parliament house with our awesome educator, William. My favourite part of our time at Parliament was pretending to be a minister, a cabinet minister to be exact. A cabinet minister is a minister in charge of all different areas. For example police minister, health minister and roading minister, all of those kind of areas, they are in charge of. When all of them come together it is called a cabinet meeting.

Next we went to Te Papa. My favourite part of Te Papa was exploring the art gallery and the Gallipoli expedition. It was amazing! Did you know that Weta Caves made the whole of the Gallipoli expedition. The statue looked so realistic, I thought that one of the dead soldiers was going to jump up at any second, that’s how real it looked!

Today was my favourite out of the days so far. Do you wanna know why? Well here’s why. First we went to Weta Caves Studios. This is one of the activities that  I was really looking forward to the most. I learnt that it normally takes around 6 - 8 weeks to build and sculpt on piece of equipment and it takes 6 hours to make one eyebrow. My favourite part of the experience was getting to see how they make the heads and full body suits and how the make up was done so well.

Our last spot that day was Wellington Zoo, my favourite. I loved the giraffes, so that is why I bought a giraffe key ring and bookmark. We also got amazing information about different animals like spider monkeys and gibbons. I learnt that spider monkeys have very gripy tails, and that gibbons are tan color when there are born, then turn black after a couple of years males stop changing colour but females change back to a tan colour.

Zealandia time! We were a bit early so we had to wait outside in the cold, but the kind lady that worked there let us in, because she didn’t like us waiting out is the cold wind. My favourite part of Zealandia was getting to spot the tuatara and looking at all different kinds of weta.
Next was the… city adventure! We all got into our different camp groups, I was part of Tumeke Poneke. We had two hours to explore the main streets of Wellington that had meet up with Mr Knight at 2:30 at the train station. To then get on the train to go down to Lower Hutt. I was sitting by Sophia we took lots of selfies. Don our bus driver meet us there and we went to a trampoline park, I re - learnt how to do a front flip on the trampoline.

More coming soon.
