Imagine Wellington

Recently in Room 4 we have been writing about Wellington, because we are going for our Room 4 camp there in 2 days. I really enjoyed writing the I imagine a night because it was just taking out parts of our Imaginative story about Wellington. Mine was about Wellington Zoo. I found it hard to stop, because I enjoyed doing it so much.
Here is the imagine a night writing.

Imagine a night . . .

Imagine a night . . . When a flash in the corner of your eye takes your whole class away.
Imagine a night . . . No one, anywhere, all gone, enclosed in the jaws of the lion's cage.
Imagine a night . . . On the wrong side, of the wrong fence.
Imagine a night . . . Swinging through the tree with the playful monkeys.
Imagine a night . . . When fast becomes slow on tired legs.
Imagine a night . . . Waking up under a quilt of playful monkeys.
Imagine a night . . . Waking up for a time of adventure.
Imagine a night . . . Playing with mighty elephants, fisty lion’s and the playful penguins.

Imagine a night . . . That ended with the time of your life.

Here is the imaginative writing.

My Playdate At Wellington Zoo

We had just finished the tour of the zoo, when I saw flash in the corner of my eye. I went around to have a look. But what I didn’t notice is that the whole class left and they didn’t even notice that I was missing. Time had past, the zoo had closed, no zookeepers, no nothing, only animals.

I started to get quite tired so I climbed into the sleeping lions enclosure. I thought that it was going to be safe to sleep in the corner of the cage, until I realized that I was on the wrong side of the fence,  I was now in with monkeys and no they were not quietly sleeping like the lions they were wide awake swinging around on every vine in sight. I tried to scurry away but legs started to fall asleep so I just keeped going slower and slower until I decided to hide in a bush and sleep.

The next morning I was out of the bush lying on the ground with 5 monkeys piled on top of me. I kicked them off and got out to see that the zoo was closed. Yes, there were zookeepers but they were all inside having a meeting. I told myself that it was time. Time for adventure. I started by getting control of the massive Indian elephant, I rode around the whole of the zoo feeding feisty lions, yeah, I was going to ride them too but they didn’t seem to friendly at all. The elephant got put back and it was time to slide on ice with little blue penguins. I got a bit cold so I moved on to eating a sandwich for breakfast with my friend the brown capuchin. I wanted to visit the monkeys again so I got some exercise and swung on their vines.

In the end I had the time of  my life. I mean who wouldn’t like to race a cheetah, bounce with kangaroos. Slide down giraffes long necks, sit on warm rocks with baboons. And best of all, sit in the sun with sun bears.

Reflective And Rotational Symmetry

We had a task to create a pattern and then make it reflective and the year 7 & 8’s had to include rotational symmetry. I found it hard to get both sides symmetrical so went quite slow, but in the end I got it finished! I found it easy to pick my pattern. We started by drawing a pattern with our rulers. Then we made it symmetrical by drawing the same pattern of the other side.
Here's a photo of what I did.

Visit To Gisborne Intermediate

The visit to Gisborne Intermediate was very overwhelming but t the same time an amazing experience!
I would love to come here again some day. I didn't feel too nervous because I already knew some girls from my dance studio. The class we visited was Room 1. I really enjoyed the shop day, I thought it was a very fun and cool way to raise money. For the shop day each class set up a stall to sell there goodies at morning tea and lunch time. My favourite goody from the shop day was the sherbet, I love sherbet.  In the end it was such a fun experience to collaborate with another school and look at what they do differently to us at Matawai School.

Wellington Zoo Information Report

We were learning about how to write an information report.
I found it easy to decorate it, to make it look eye catching.
I found it hard to make everything the correct size so that it all fitted.
I really enjoyed researching a specific place that we are going to visit later on in the year.
Next time I need to make sure that everyone in the team has an equal contribution to finished product.
My Blog Post shows I am a Smart Learner.
Now here is the finished product.

Wellington Zoo Abstract Noun Poem

We were learning about how to write an abstract noun poem.
I found it easy to think of the 'looks like' because we have just done a study on the place, so I had a pretty good idea in my head of what it looks like.
I found it hard to think of ideas especially for tastes and smells like.
I really enjoyed writing a poem, because we do not write poems that often and I love poems.
Next time I need to be more descriptive.
My Blog Post shows I am a Smart Learner.
Now here is my poem,

Looks like bees to a flowery meadow, as tourist from all around the world come to admire animals  from the safari.
Smells like the lions fleshy meat torn apart by their sharp canines.
Tastes like the strong freshly brewed coffee at the exploring cafe.
Sounds like the mighty roar of the lion and the sweet elegant chirp of the birds.
Feels like the soft fur from the bouncing kangaroos.
Lives in Wellington Zoo.

Reflection
We were learning about how to create an imaginative story about our Wellington location.
I found it easy to write my story.
I found it hard to come up with an interesting ending for my story.
I really enjoyed writing an imaginative story, because we do not do this that much.
Next time I need to brainstorm right from the beginning.

Collaborating Online

We were learning how to use sisomo..
I really enjoyed how if you messed up on the voice over then you can delete it then redo it.
I found it hard to make the slides long enough.
It was easy to put the music in the video.
Next time I need to make it more interesting.

Sisomo is about getting sight, sound and motion into a digital learning object (DLO).

Criteria for assessment:
Key:
πŸ‘ = beginner          πŸ‘πŸ‘ = stepping up         πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ = smart learner
My buddy and I used “comments” to collaborate
πŸ‘ πŸ‘πŸ‘
My buddy and I made decisions together using “comments”
πŸ‘ πŸ‘
My buddy and I wrote 3 important Cyber smart messages
πŸ‘ πŸ‘πŸ‘
My buddy and I created a character in Google Drawings
πŸ‘ πŸ‘πŸ‘
My buddy and I designed our slides so the messages were easy to read
πŸ‘ πŸ‘πŸ‘
My buddy and I used design elements in our slides

The Everglades - The River Of Grass

The Everglades - The River Of Grass
In Room 4 we have been focusing on inquiries. We started off with writing inquiries then we moved on to reading. This post is about my reading inquiry.
Our class goal is to take the key information then summarise.
I personally think that I did a pretty acceptable job doing it. My favourite section of the whole thing was reading the book, because I love reading! I had trouble finishing because I was also trying to finish my second writing inquiry at the same time. I took a bit longer to finish because, I took most of the info and summarized it, instead of just taking parts of the info.
Have you ever been to the Everglades? Let me know down in the comments below.

The Bike Outing - Adrenaline Writing

The Bike Outing - Adrenaline Writing

Room 4 were given a video and were told to write about it. I chose to write about a person that was doing an extreme bike ride.

Our class goal for this activity was detail, like adding in adjectives, nouns and verbs. My favourite part of the whole experience was actually writing about what I saw. Ms Dods helped me out with most of my writing, but soon I got the hang of it and was up and going again. We also did another piece of adrenaline writing, this one I called Lunch. It was about a lion trying to catch its food, the buffalo. I had trouble along the way making it 3 paragraphs and adding detail, but in the end at least it got finished.

Have you ever been on an extreme bike ride before? Let me know down in the comments below.

Anna Pavlova - The Greatest Ballerina Known

Anna Pavlova - The Greatest Ballerina Known

Lately Room 4 have been working on the arts writing inquiry. I personally chose a lady called Anna Pavlova.
Our class learning goal was to get the key information then summarize. To summarize you have to get the key info the turn it into your own words. Plagiarism is the word for when you copy and paste strait onto your own work.
My favourite part was the design segment. Something that I learnt along the way, is that you don't always have to have a capital letter for mum and dad. Sentence structures are also very important.

Can you guess how old Anna Pavlova was when she died. Comment below if you know the answer.
